Crestwood Residence
A modern farmhouse in the mature neighbourhood of Crestwood in Edmonton.

This residence in the mature Edmonton neighbourhood of Crestwood was designed for a client seeking a modern farmhouse with over-grouted stone facades, generous interior living spaces and arched interior accents.

The project site is an acreage in the mature Crestwood neighbourhood of Edmonton. Inspired by a traditional farmhouse, the client retained holo-blok to reimagine the farmhouse typology to best serve the functional needs of their young and growing family.
holo-blok leveraged the site conditions and pulled massing away from property lines in order to allow natural light to penetrate inside the floor plates. The site also features a large outdoor amenity space, complete with a pergola and masonry-constructed feature fireplace.

The project is built using a commercial rainscreen envelope and is designed to be solar ready. The iconic over grouted stone facade provides a timeless exterior with ample natural lighting that will be home to this family for years to come.

The project draws inspiration from traditional farmhouse typologies and integrates a steep sloped primary mass with a more gently sloping secondary mass, providing contrast at the main facade. The primary entrance includes a covered area which serves to separate the contrasting forms. Featuring an iconic over-grouted stone facade, the timeless exterior uses a commercial rainscreen envelope and is designed to be solar-ready.

The side yard facade includes a large stairwell window to usher natural light into the center of the floorplate. Meanwhile, the rear facade is designed to mimic the language on the front and highlight the two predominant masses. However, the scale is minimized through the integration of a pergola structure, bringing all the site amenities together.

The interior spaces are designed with high ceilings and open living areas to integrate the living room, kitchen and dining room. Large operable glazing at the rear of the house further extends the living space to the outdoors. Working with Lindsey Seth-Perreault, the interior designer on the project, the holo-blok team paid close attention to the way interior details like wainscoting integrated with the rest of the project.
