holo blok was originally retained on the University Commons project to provide fabrication modelling services to the mechanical and electrical trades (Priority Mechanical and Territorial Electric) for the core and shell portion of the project. In addition to fabrication modelling services, holo blok was also responsible for augmenting the asset information management framework (COBie) with the contractor asset data.
Throughout this process, holo blok was able to identify certain roadblocks which were preventing the University of Alberta from achieving their goals. holo blok worked with the client to develop a process which would address the roadblocks and efficiently handover the digital data sought by the University.

This effort culminated in the University of Alberta retaining holo blok directly for Digital Project Delivery (“DPD”) Advisory services for the fit out of the building. In addition, the University also required the mechanical and electrical engineers for the project (WSP and AME) to retain holo blok for DPD Advisory services, and to have holo-blok augment the design models with fabrication level detail.
Working with the trades, the project uses lean approaches to design assist where a single source of truth is being used to document, build, and capture highly structured asset data. The end result is that the University of Alberta can more effectively construct this complicated project and receive a digital asset for the project that can be used for the lifecycle of the project.
